Satanic Ritual at McMartin Preschool, CA?

It was September 1983 when a letter from the Manhattan Beach Police Department to parents of the McMartin preschool sent shockwaves through the community.

After an allegation of child molestation and the arrest of a preschool teacher, the letter asked parents to investigate if their children had been victims. It mentioned sex, fondling and said photos may have been taken of children without clothing, and all possibly under the pretense of taking the child’s temperature. The children talked of relating to satanic ritual and tunnels beneath the school.

The trial would become what many claim to be the longest, most-expensive criminal trial in U.S. history.

Key McFarlane, the director of CII at the time, examined and videotaped approximately 400 children using anatomically correct dolls. “I’ve been working with sexually abused children for 13 years, and I have never seen children as frightened as these children.

It was claimed that 360 children had been abused. 41 of the original 360 children ultimately testified in the grand jury and pre-trial hearings, and fewer than a dozen testified at the actual trial

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. — The mother whose accusations launched the McMartin Pre-School molestation case was found dead in her home, a possible suicide, authorities said.

An uncharged suspect in the McMartin Pre-School molestation case has been found dead. The bearded, long-haired Winkler had been identified in photographs by several former McMartin pupils as one of “the ubiquitous strangers” (wolfman?) who figure in the case, according to Deputy Dist. Atty. Lael Rubin. A subsequent raid on the Lomita home of Winkler’s girlfriend last February yielded a pair of rabbit ears, a black cape and cloak, and black candles, a find that prosecutors characterized as “tremendously corroborative” of some preschoolers’ accounts of having been molested and frightened into silence by seeing rabbits’ ears cut off and witnessing satanic rituals.

The first grade pupil also testified that Mr. Buckey had cut the ears off rabbits and injured other pets in front of the children and had threatened to harm their parents if they told anyone about the alleged sexual molestation.

In the 1970s, the Eberles published a pornography publication called Finger. In 1972 they wrote The Adventures of Mrs. Pussycat, a children’s book.  Alan Dershowitz called the book, The Abuse of Innocence, “… a wake-up call to those who believe that prosecutors and their experts can be trusted to do justice in the emotional context of child abuse.

E. Gary Stickel, Ph.D. – Archaeological Investigations of the McMartin Preschool site – The project unearthed not one but two tunnel complexes as well as previously unrecognized structural features which defied logical explanation. Both tunnel complexes conformed to locations and functional descriptions established by children’s reports. One had been described as providing undetected access to an adjacent building on the east. The other provided outside access under the west wall of the building and contained within it an enlarged, cavernous artifact corresponding to children’s descriptions of a “secret room”.
